Benefits of Infrared Assessments
Radon is a naturally occurring, colorless, odorless gas that forms from the decay of uranium in soil, rock, and water. It is a radioactive substance that can seep into homes through cracks in floors, walls, and foundations, as well as through gaps around service pipes and other openings. Because it is difficult to detect without specific testing, radon is often referred to as a "silent killer."

How Common is Radon in Your Home?
At Eye 4 Inspection Services, we prioritize your home's safety regarding radon exposure. If your radon test results exceed 4 pCi/L, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) recommends conducting a follow-up test. Should the follow-up test—or the average of both tests—also show levels above 4 pCi/L, it is advisable to implement radon mitigation measures to lower these levels in your home.
In the fast-paced real estate market, decisions about mitigation are often made based on a single test using an EPA-approved monitor. Our team at Eye 4 Inspection Services, utilizing our high performance monitors, can provide multiple tests upon request to ensure accuracy.
According to a national residential radon survey, the average indoor radon level in the U.S. is approximately 1.3 pCi/L, while the average outdoor level is around 0.4 pCi/L. Ensuring your home’s radon levels are within safe limits is crucial for your family's health and well-being.

What's the Health Risk?
Exposure to elevated levels of radon can pose significant health risks. According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), radon is the second leading cause of lung cancer in the United States, following smoking. Long-term exposure can increase the risk of developing lung cancer, especially for individuals who smoke or have been exposed to high radon levels over extended periods .

The Importance of Radon Mitigation
At Eye 4 Inspection Services, we understand that radon mitigation can vary significantly from home to home due to differences in construction styles. At its core, radon mitigation involves a straightforward system comprising underground pipes and an exhaust fan that creates a low-pressure area beneath your home, allowing radon gas to be drawn out effectively.
The specific configuration of the mitigation system will depend on your home’s foundation type—whether it has a basement, is built on a slab, or features a crawl space. In larger homes or those with more complex designs, it's not uncommon to implement multiple radon mitigation systems to ensure optimal effectiveness.
